LT-GEN OP Nandrajog, AVSM VSM, took over as the GOC-in-C Central Command on New Year day. Prior to the appointment, he was serving as General Officer Commanding 10 Corps in the Western Sector. He takes over from outgoing Lt Gen R Subramanayam
An alumnus of Punjab Public School, Nabha, the General was commissioned into the Brigade of the Guards in 1967 and had the privilege of spearheading the conversion of the Brigade of the Guards into a mechanised role by commanding the conversion of the Brigade of the Guards into a mechanized role by commanding and converting 4 Guards (1 Rajput) into a Mechanised Infantry Battalion.
The General attended the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the esteemed National Defence College, New Delhi. General Nandrajog has held various prestigious staff positions and command of two Brigades in J&K and GOC of a Division in the Western Sector during Operation Parakarm. The General represented the country as Military, Naxal and Air Attache in Sweden.
The General is rich in war experience having seen action during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and has the privilege of commanding 121 (independent) Infantry Brigade Group during the 1999 Kargil War. His wife Kiran Nandrajog is an educationist and is a forerunner in the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) activities.
