New mayor, 70 corporators to be sworn in today

STAGE HAS been set for the grand swearing in ceremony of the newly elected mayor Anju Chaudhary and 70 corporators of the Municipal Corporation Board on Friday at the Court Club ground. Around 50 enclosures have been erected to accommodate the 7000 invitees. Meanwhile, the SP corporators have strongly condemned the squandering of money from the board, which is already facing paucity of funds.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Satyaprakash Pandey justified the face-lift exercises of municipal corporation board. According to sources attractive gifts will be given to all the newly elected corporators while the mayor’s room and the conference hall has been refurbished. Sources also claimed that the municipal corporation officials would give a silver pot (a symbol of justice carried out by Bhima) to the newly elected mayor and for the first time any mayor of Gorakhpur would wear a gown while presiding over the meeting of the board.

Meanwhile, city unit president of Samajwadi Party, Zia-ul-Islam said the lavish expenditure of corporation officials would add more burden to the tax paying public. He condemned the corporation officials for their irresponsible attitude. SP corporators has intensified their activities to join the hand with other opposition parties to corner mayor Anju Chaudhary on the issue of a new slaughterhouse in corporation premises.
