New Pak envoy arrives, hopes to improve ties
He says relationship between the two countries as "very important" and hopes to improve the ongoing dialogues.
Arriving in New Delhi to take up his new assignment, Pakistan's new High Commissioner Shahid Malik on Monday described the relationship between the two countries as "very important" and hoped the ongoing dialogue process will progress during his tenure.
Malik, a career diplomat and an old India hand, said his top priority will be to see improvement in relations between the two countries.
"It is a great honour to represent Pakistan in a country like India. It's a very important relationship and I am looking forward to this challenging assignment," he told reporters at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on his arrival.
The new High Commissioner, who succeeds Aziz Ahmad Khan, is taking over at a time when the two countries have decided to push forward their relations despite challenges.
Noting that he was taking up a "responsible assignment, especially in a situation when the dialogue process is in underway", he said "I hope, the process will move forward in my presence here."
