New rehab for alcoholic husbands

In a unique way to keep their husbands and other male family members away from liquor and gambling, the women will conduct a massive drive to publically insult them.

Men caught drinking liquor and indulging in social evils such as gambling in villages of Dehat district here will be bombarded with insults in full public glare, from now on.

In a unique way to keep their husbands and other male family members away from liquor and gambling, the women will conduct a massive drive to publically insult them.

The drive, which is being carried out by an NGO Aadarsh Mahila Samaj Seva Samiti, comprising village women, has the support of the public as well as the district police and administration, said Neelam a member of the NGO.

“Male members of Madanpur, Kishorepur, Hariyapur and Kanpur villages of Kanpur district ignore their agricultural work by drinking liquor and playing cards throughout the day,” she alleged. The drive — in which men will be publically humiliated and forced to swear to give up drinking and gambling in future — was an effort by women in the area to teach the men a lesson, she said.
