New year celebrations here would be a low key affair with Mumbaikars preferring to stay indoors in the backdrop of the November 26 audacious terror attack in the city.
The terror strike and recession has dampened the spirit and enthusiasm of Mumbaikars.
"Like Christmas, New Year celebrations would also be a low key affair for my family. We will go to church for the mass prayers and then wish everyone," said Robin Vieghas, a resident of suburban Kalina.
"Mumbai has a nature to move on after any disaster. However, the terror strike without any doubt has dampened the spirit of Mumbai. I don't know about others but I have no plans to party this time," said Ramesh Bhoga, senior executive in a private firm.
The Mumbai police has also taken several steps to ensure that the New Year celebrations pass smoothly.
According to police, Revellers would not be allowed to move around famous seafronts like Gateway of India, Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park and Aksa beach beyond 0030 hours.
CCTVs, watchtowers would be installed to monitor visitors' activities at different popular spots to avert any untoward incident during the day, they said adding barricades would be put at different places to control the heavy traffic.
