A Metro link to Faridabad may soon see the light of the day as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the alignment proposal sent by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
According to DMRC, NHAI approved the plan to align the metro line from Badarpur to Faridabad on the left side of Mathura Road (NH-2).
“We have received letter from NHAI authorities day before yesterday (Monday) agreeing to our proposal,” said Kumar Keshav, director of projects and planning at DMRC.
“Now, our next step is to start floating tenders which will be done shortly. Work on the line should begin in 3-4 months,” Keshav added.
Earlier, the metro link was proposed to run in the middle of NH-2. However, the DMRC rejected the plan on the grounds that widening of the highway would be adversely affected.
DMRC’s technical team then suggested that the line be aligned to the highway on its left. This proposal was waiting for NHAI’s approval for months. Even DMRC managing director E Sreedharan had visited Faridabad and approved the fresh proposal.

In the meeting chaired by financial commissioner SS Dhillon in Chandigarh, some sites in Faridabad were also handed over to DMRC for construction work.
The 13.8-km-long Metro link to Faridabad will be an elevated line with nine stations - Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 27A, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Ajronda, Faridabad New Town and YMCA Chowk.
