The director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Burdwan and Murshidabad to assess the investigation and also conducted an aerial survey of the areas to understand the geography of the land and their access to the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Sharad Kumar, the DG, surveyed the blast spots, houses, shops and other establishments linked to Shakil Ahmed, an operative of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) who was killed in the October 2 blast in Burdwan.

“Investigation so far has revealed that the arrested persons — two women and two men were members of the Bangladeshi Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) and there were preparing bombs which were being transported to Bangladesh,” said NIA in an official statement.

The DG is expected to submit a report to the home ministry after he returns to Delhi on Saturday. The agency is also expected to announce cash rewards to catch absconding suspected terror operatives

Investigation into the Burdwan blast has important ramifications vis-à-vis India’s relations with Bangladesh, as it appears prima facie that terror operatives were infiltrating into India to hatch a conspiracy against the Sheikh Hasina regime.
