Nine killed in road mishap near Mahabalipuram

Nine persons, including three children, are killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry.

Nine persons, including three children, were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry near Mahabalipuram on Friday, police said.

The mishap occurred at Kovalam, 50 km from Chennai, when the car, which was going from Chennai to Rameswaram, and the dipper lorry, which was carrying gravel, collided while crossing a barricade at a check post, police said.

The driver of the lorry was among the dead. The injured were admitted to Chengelpet Government Hospital.
