A coast guard told the agency on Saturday that they were on routine patrol between Chennai and Cuddalore when they found the Lankan fishermen in two mechanised boats venturing into Indian waters on Thursday night.
The coast guard towed the boats alone with their catch to the Chennai coast early on Saturday morning.
After preliminary investigation, they would be handed over to local police for further action, the sources added.
