CONGRESS CANDIDATE Shivshambhu Nishad blamed Union Minister for Small-Scale Industries Mahavir Prasad and other party leaders for his defeat in the Kauriram by-election.
He has written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders regarding infighting in the party.
In his fax message to the party president, Nishad said former MLA Lal Chand Nishad tacitly supported Samajwadi Party candidate Ram Bhuwal Nishad in the by-election.
He said he had polled only 11 votes in the native village of the former district president of the party. This showed that Congress leaders were campaigning against the party, he added.
He levelled charges against the city and the district unit president of the party. Nishad said the district president of the party had a soft corner for BJP MP Yogi Adityanath. City unit president Chaudhary Irshad Husain tacitly supported the SP in the by-election, he alleged.
Continuing his offensive against party leaders, Nishad claimed he was a member of the Congress since 1962.
He said he had spent around Rs 10 lakh on the by-election, but Congress workers and office-bearers, including Sanjeev Singh, Dinesh Srivastav, Jeevan Prakash and others, did not participate in the campaign. Nishad said infighting in the district unit of the party and lack of cooperation among leaders and party workers would demoralise all those who aspired for the party ticket in the assembly election.
