Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated Rs 180 crore Rajgir-Tilaiya railway line at Rajgir, besides two road overbridges in Patna on Tuesday.
The new railway line would ease the problem of the people travelling to Tilaiya in Jharkhand and would help in supply of coal to the NPC unit at Barh, he said at the inaugural programme at Rajgir in his home district of Nalanda.
"It will also help reduce the cost of per unit energy production from the plant because the freight charges of coal to be transported will come down significantly," he said, adding the new rail toute will facilitate movement of around 36 rakes of coal per day.
Advising the people to board trains after buying valid tickets, Kumar, who had served as Railway Minister said had he been in office now he would not have allowed trains to move ahead even an inch till the passengers bought tickets for travel.
The Rajgir-Tilaiya rail line would be extended upto Koderma in Jharkhand, he said.
He also flagged off 544/545 new Danapur-Rajgir passenger trains on the occasion and later inaugurated two road overbridges at Agamkuan and Secretariat here.
While Rs 42 crore was spent on construction of the road overbridge at Agamkuan, Rs 43 crore was spent on the other at Secretariat.
