Nitish slams Centre for bad shape of Highways

He says repair and renovation work of these highways could not be taken up due to inadequate allotment of funds.

Slamming the UPA government at the Centre for the 'dismal condition' of national highways in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said repair and renovation work of these highways could not be taken up due to inadequate allotment.

"Five rounds of talks have been held between the Centre and Bihar on the issue, the last being five days ago. Now I am hopeful that funds would be received soon," he told newspersons after his first division-level Janata Ke Durbar Mein Mukhyamantri (public interface) programme in Purnia.

Referring to investments in the state, he said Bihar government has approved setting up of 14 sugar mills in private sector.

On the reopening of the sugar factory at Banmankhi in Purnia district, he said the mill run by the state Sugar Corporation was closed during the RJD regime, an action which was challenged in court whose verdict is awaited.

Kumar said his government had launched a campaign against corrupt officials, who have amassed huge wealth.

The chief minister was accompanied by Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Chief Secretary AK Chaudhary, Director General of Police AR Sinha, education secretary MM Jha and the district magistrates and superintendents of police of all the four districts under Purnia division.
