NLFT insurgent killed in encounter with Tripura State Rifles

An insurgent of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura was killed in an encounter with Tripura State Rifles on Tuesday.

An insurgent of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was killed in an encounter with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) on Tuesday at Thalcherra in Dhalai district, police said.

Acting on specific information that the militants would come to collect taxes from the villagers at Thalcherra village, a contingent of Tripura State Rifles reached the spot.

On seeing them, the militants opened fire, which led to the 15-minute encounter in which an insurgent was killed. The other extremists escaped into the forest.

Police said the search operation was still on in the area.
