No coalition with AAP: Gadkari

BJP’s Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari maintained his party was confident of winning the election by a two-thirds majority.

A day before the capital goes to polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari ruled out the possibility of his party forming a coalition with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in case of a hung assembly.

The former BJP chief maintained that his party was confident of a winning the election by a two-thirds majority.

“There is no scope for a hung assembly at all. However, coalition with AAP is not a possibility at all,” said Gadkari on Tuesday. The election in-charge spent few hours at the Pandit Pant Marg office to take stock of poll arrangements.

“The overwhelming response that we got at our prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rallies in the city is an indication that people have already accepted us. The graph of Congress has been going down substantially,” Gadkari said.

He asked the booth-level workers to keep an eye on the Congress workers as the party fears that they might distribute liquor and cash to influence the voters.

While admitting that the BJP did not have a magic wand to transform the city in a day, Gadkari said that his party would provide better governance than the Congress. “They were not even able to organise a single rally of the Prime Minister because they knew arranging the crowd would be a difficult task. They have lost all credibility,” he said.

The party has asked all the booth-level workers to report to their respective polling booths around 6.30 am even though voting begins at 8 am.

“We have made separate teams for tomorrow. While two members will work as polling agents, another team will manage the table where slips are provided to voters and a third team will request those who haven’t cast their votes to go to the booths,” said Vijay Sharma, general secretary of the BJP’s Delhi unit.
