Farmers of nine villages near Noida Extension on Sunday decided to negotiate directly with the authority and not with the builders about their acquired land.
The decision was taken at a maha panchayat in Roza Yakoobpur village. The meeting was attended by 60 farmers, including representatives from nine villagers — Itheda, Bisrakh, Patwari, Shahberi, Haibatpur, Kherpur, Amnabad, Tusiyana and Roza.
The villagers said they will hold a similar panchayat on August 7 to decide the future course of action after seeing the authority's response. Differences surfaced during the meeting as some farmers, who have been agitating for more than five years, said they were not being given due attention and respect.
The Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, however, said the divide between farmers has been created by the builders who are approaching land owners with different offers.
"Some builders managed to strike deals with farmers at Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per square meter. They even prepared documents and had come to the village to get signatures from the farmers," said Dushyant Nagar, spokesperson of Kisan Sangarsh Samiti.
"A builder will strike a deal only where his project is affected. But farmers whose land has been acquired would be worst affected as they cannot negotiate directly with builders," Nagar said.
Urging farmers to join hands, Nagar said the acquired land is no more useful for agriculture.
