Taliban militants who kidnapped an Indian engineer in restive southern Afghanistan said on Saturday he was in good health, but India's ambassador said his captors had not yet made any demands.
"We have abducted the Indian engineer. He is sound and healthy. Our leaders have not decided on his fate so far. We are awaiting orders from our leaders regarding his fate," a purported Taliban spokesman, Yousuf Ahmadi, said.
New Delhi's ambassador to Afghanistan, Rakesh Sood, said, "So far they have not made any demands" for Narain, a married father of three from the southern city of Hyderabad.
Narain was abducted in Sharjoy district of troubled southern Zabul province on the main highway liking the capital Kabul to the southern city of Kandahar.
Several foreign nationals working in security and reconstruction projects in war-ravaged Afghanistan have been kidnapped since the toppling of the Taliban government in a US-led operation in late 2001.
Some kidnappings have been blamed on Taliban militants and some of those abducted have been killed, including a Briton and an Indian national last year.
