IT WAS a day of disappointment for persons working to restore normalcy at the closed Bhopal Memorial Hospital & Research Centre (BMHRC).
The issue of prolonged crisis at BMHRC, constructed at the behest of Supreme Court, was likely to come up before the court in the course of hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) on medical care of gas victims today but that did not happen.
Similarly, proposed meeting of representatives of agitating hospital staff with Union Chemicals & Fertilisers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan reported to be slated today was put off till Wednesday.
Two representatives of the hospital staff are now leaving today for a meeting with Paswan and CPM leader Brinda Karat. Chairman of BMHRC Trust Justice A M Ahmadi is also said to have rejected the proforma application for reappointment and apology sent on behalf of hospital staff to him for approval.
The Action Group formed under the chairmanship of senior BJP leader Kailash Sarang had sent the proforma to Justice Ahmadi for approval since he has been insisting for application for reappointment and a regret for their conduct from staff of the hospital who had tendered en masse resignation and were later terminated by the management.

Sarang and other members of the Action Group are peeved at the response of Justice Ahmadi to their appeal to consider joint application and regret letter on behalf of the employees and are preparing a ‘befitting’ reply to it.
Justice Ahmadi’s letter would be released to media with its reply prepared by the Action Group, said spokesperson of the Action Group Alok Pratap Singh, refusing to disclose what exactly Justice Ahmadi had written while rejecting the proposed joint application and regret letter.
Another prominent member of the Action Group M W Siddiqui is preparing a detailed note on how the State Government could effectively intervene in the BMHRC crisis. “Justice Ahmadi has made it a prestige point. He is being adamant to caress his ego at the cost of gas victims who are dying for want of treatment”, he said.
