No nominations to be filed in State on November 8-9

Even as nominations for December 1 Assembly polls start from Nov 7, it would not be filed on Nov 8 and Nov 9 as per the directions of the Election Commission.

Even as nominations for the December1 Assembly elections start from November 7, it would not be filed on November 8 and November 9 as per the directions of the Election Commission.

A senior official of the election department on Monday said the nominations starting from November 7 would have to be discontinued for two successive days as second Saturday and Sunday fall on November 8 and November 9. However, the process would resume from November 10 and would continue uninterrupted till the last day of nomination, November 14, the official said.

Meanwhile, the poll preparations are on in full swing as the elections draw near.

As many as 35,689 polling booths will be set up in Rajasthan for the 12th Assembly elections. Of which 28,694 polling booths will in the rural areas while more than 7,000 in the urban centres of the State.

Chief Electoral Officer Lalit Kothari said the polling centres have been reconstituted for the December one elections.

Under the new arrangement, one polling center would cater to more than one thousand voters and it has been ensured that voters do not have to cover a distance of more than two km to exercise their franchise.

He said the number of the polling booths have been reduced by 5143 this year in comparison to the last Assembly elections.

The highest number-2895 polling booths will be set up in Jaipur district while Jaisalmer district will have the lowest number, 363. Apart from that, Ajmer will have 1382, Alwar 1746, Banswara 973, Baran 741, Barmer 1762, Bharatpur 1191, Bhilwara 1385, Bikaner 1289, Bundi 623, Chittaurgarh 1281, Churu 1071, Dausa 871, Dholpur 501, Doongarpur 633 and 911 polling booths have been scheduled for Sriganganagar district.

Similarly, 1093 polling booths will be set up in Hanumangarh district, 938 in Jalore, 793 in Jhalawar, 1199 in Jhunjhunu, 1635 in Jodhpur, 719 in Karauli, 957 in Kota, 1806 in Nagaur, 1304 in Pali, 689 in Rajsamand, 1422 in Sikar, 487 in Sirohi, 823 in Tonk and 1609 polling booths in Udaipur district.
