No point blaming the pitch

There is no point in giving out excuses about the pitch and conditions. After all we did lose on a turner in Bangalore, writes Kris Srikkanth.

At no time after India's first innings debacle did I expect the match to end in either a draw or an Indian win. An Australian victory was the only possible result right from the moment India collapsed for 185 early on day three at Nagpur.

But I never expected us to be disgraced either, certainly not in the manner we were, by collapsing yet again in the second innings.

We are a leading batting line-up on paper but here we were struggling to bat even 75 overs. Defeat and victory is a part of cricket but such a huge defeat is, I am afraid, unacceptable.

There is no point in giving out excuses about the pitch, the conditions and so on. After all we did lose on a turner in Bangalore and also found ourselves in trouble at one stage on another turner in Chennai.

It is time we stopped talking about the state of the pitch and so on and accept that we lost because we played badly. That is the only route to improvement.
