Powercuts may soon become a thing of the past in Haryana. The government claims the state will be declared a 'no-powercut zone' by the year 2012-13 and electricity would be available round-the-clock.
The state plans to increase power generating capacity and bridge the gap between demand and supply. The power transmission and distribution system will also be strengthened.
Under the plan of capacity addition, 600 MW will be added to the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram thermal power plant in Yamunanagar and 1200 MW at the Rajiv Gandhi plant at Khedar (Hisar).
This was stated by Haryana power minister Mahender Pratap Singh on Monday after laying the foundation stone of a 220 KV sub-station at village Meerpur Kaurali near Palwal to be constructed by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam at a cost of R91 crore.
He also laid the foundation stone of a 66 KV sub-station at Rundhi village to be constructed at a cost of R5.37 crore.
He added that 45 sub-stations will come up next year at a budget of R1, 843 crore in the state. Singh further said the Central government has approved bifurcation of 100 feeders and creation of a high voltage distribution system on 83 feeders in Faridabad and Gurgaon under a World Bank project.
