'No surety of job unless written assurance of placement'

An institute claiming to provide jobs to its candidates cannot be forced to ensure placements unless it gives a written assurance, the Delhi Consumer Commission has said.

An institute claiming to provide jobs to its candidates cannot be forced to ensure placements unless it gives a written assurance, the Delhi Consumer Commission has said.

It also added that it was the merit of the candidate, which decides whether he or she was suitable for the job.

"Unless and until there is written assurance given by the institute for placement and for providing the job, it is never assured. It depends upon the merits of the candidate," Commission's President Justice J D Kapoor said.

The Commission's observations have come after hearing a plea of city resident Sabir Khan challenging the dismissal of his complaint by the District Forum.

The Forum had held that he had taken admission voluntarily and no assurance of job by the institute was given.

Khan took admission in Delhi Institute of Computer Sciences and was allegedly promised a job after successful completion of its course.

He claimed that the institute assured him of employment as a graphic designer.

However, the institute termed the allegation as baseless and contended that the present petition has been filed just to extract money from it.
