A division bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan and Arun Tandon fixed September 2 for the next hearing and directed that the state has to come up with appropriate steps for effective check on untreated water being not discharged in the Ganga.
The court has asked the UP Pollution Control Board to inspect and identify tanneries which are functioning without having 'No Objection Certificate' or are not registered.
Appearing as amicus curiae, advocate Arun Kumar Gupta submitted that large number of tanneries are running within residential areas in Kanpur, which are neither registered nor have obtain NoC from the UP Pollution Control Board.
