As these areas are located on a height, water pressure is low, resulting in reduced supply. Some parts of Worli, Malad and Ghatkopar too face the same problem.

“The topography of some areas makes the water problem worse for them. We have reduced supply hours, and as the water reaches areas far from the reservoir, or elevated areas, the supply tends to trickle,” said Pramod Charanakar, deputy municipal commissioner in charge of water supply projects.

About 100 Kalina residents protested outside the H-East ward office on Saturday and demanded a solution to their water woes. “We do not get water to drink… we need a permanent solution,” said Anil Upadhyaya, president of the Kalina Welfare Association.

The water from the lakes first reaches the Bhandup plant and the Pali Hill reservoir and is then supplied to Kalina and other parts of the city through the water distribution pipeline.

“Within 10 days we will place a pipeline that will improve the distribution channel,” said Mistry. The municipal corporation currently draws 3,230 million litres of water daily (MLD) against its usual 3,450 MLD.
