"In politics nobody is successor...One has to do a hardwork which matters a lot," Badal said after casting his vote at his home turf Lambi.

"Hardworks pay at the end of the day in politics," he said, rejecting suggestion that his son would be his successor.

He said that corruption cases registered against him and his family members during the Amarinder Singh regime were "false and fabricated."

Badal, who is locked in a direct contest against his cousin Mahesh Inder Singh of Congress from Lambi, exuded confidence that incessant rains at several parts of the state would not dampen the spirit of voters from casting their franchise.
