Sarvendu Mishra, 24, who also used to teach at an institute in Mayur Vihar, strangled his wife Pragya Mishra with an electric cord after an argument, the police said.

“After killing his wife, he called his in-laws and told them he had killed their daughter. The woman’s parents informed the police who reached the crime spot and arrested the accused,” said Sector 11 police officer Nawab Ahmed.

Pragya, a resident of Allahabad, got married to Sarvendu in 2005. The couple had been staying in Delhi since 2009 and had recently moved to Noida from Pandav Nagar.

Their neighbours had no clue about the crime. “Pragya’s mother was with them the day they shifted here and she seemed very happy with her son-in-law and daughter. We had no inkling that they were going through a strained relationship,” said Hira Lal, their landlord. “They were living on the third floor. As we are on the ground floor, we did not hear any sound or scream,” said Lal.

“Pragya was student of Satyam Fashion Institute in Sector 62, Noida,” Ahmed said.
