The Noida authority has decided to ease the process of regularisation in all unauthorised and haphazardly set up markets, paving the way for removal of encroachment and execution of long held-up development projects in those areas.
The process remained stuck for years as the traders were asked to pay half of the commercial rates of their respective areas to get their businesses regularised. But, now the authority has planned to reduce the regularisation fee.
"We're formulating a policy to charge affordable rates. We have begun a survey for regularisation of these pockets. The process of development will start only after regularisation," said Noida chairman Balvinder Kumar.
Hundreds of illegally established markets such as Atta and others could not be regularised earlier because the shop owners refused to pay the charges as per commercial rate claiming that the plots were abadi land. In Atta the present commercial rate is around Rs5 lakh per sqm.
But the new policy is expected to break the deadlock. Now the authority has realised these structures as a modern-day reality and cannot be razed in the name of encroachment.
