The city police swung into action on Tuesday to restore non-functional phones at police stations in Noida and Greater Noida. The office of the Senior Superintendent of Police has sent a letter to BSNL to resume services.
Fourteen of the 17 police stations' landline phones in Noida and Greater Noida have been disconnected — over non-payment of bills. It happened a month ago, say sources.
On Monday, Hindustan Times had that reported that only three police stations (Jarcha, Greater Noida and Noida Sector 24) had phones that were in working order.
However, out of them, no one answered calls at Jarcha and Greater Noida.
"The telecom operator had disconnected the phone lines due to non- payment of dues. We have written to the telecom company to resume service and allow us the incoming facility active even if there is a bill pending. We will make sure these phone lines are functional as soon as possible," said Praveen Kumar, Senior
Superintendent of the Police (SSP).
"These telephone lines are had been disconnected after bills had not been paid for more than six-nine months. The lines are disconnected from the Chandigarh office and the operator sitting there does not know whether the connection belongs to the police department. We are yet to receive the letter from the police department but we will soon resume services to those numbers," said US Pandey, general manager, BSNL Noida.

Shockingly, some phone numbers displayed on the websites were also found to be incorrect. Most of these landline phones at police stations were functional till the UP assembly elections.
After that, the telecom operator had disconnected the lines over non-payment of bills.
