"The quota will kill the merit system. It will darken the future of thousands of good students. It will also do no good to the students who were coming under the quota. They would feel secluded and not part of the society. Moreover, why in India only the government is following the quota system ? The step seems to appease a section of students at the cost of others. This agitation would continue until the government takes cognizance of our demands," said JDA president Dr Neeraj.
Dr Naseem said for medical profession the competency is a must. Even if any student was admitted through quota he might not be able to continue further in the absence of required level of efficiency. In this way a seat would go vacant which could have been occupied by a merit holder, he said.
JDA general secretary Dr Chandrashekhar Joshi said, "we need the support of every section of society to carry our agitation further. The quota system would affect every person directly or indirectly. Instead of reserving seats for OBCs why is not government giving them financial assistance and other aid to increase their competency level."
Dr Himanshu said the quota proposal has created a very tense atmosphere on the campus. It would have far reaching effect on the studies and personal relations, he added.
