Delhites will no longer need to visit their unfriendly neighbourhood police station for a common complaint: reporting a lost item.
Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday will launch a yet-to-be-named program at the Talkatora Stadium during an elaborate ceremony.
The initiative, in the making ever since Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi took over, will give Delhites a foreign-inspired app dedicated to the online registration of misplaced items such as phones and documents.
"If you feel you need to report the loss of your phone, you needn't visit the police station and unnecessarily wait. You can log on to our website, report and even print out your receipt for further correspondence," said a police officer.
The app will be available on iPhones, Windows as well as Android phones.
The Delhi Police receives close to 1,000 reports about lost items everyday. A majority of these are phones, followed by documents and wallets.
"This step was also taken to help the local police spend more energy on policing and investigation instead of paper work," the officer added.
