From African-Indian music to songs by a London-based group of Indian Baghdadi Jews, the three-day music concert "Remembered Rhythms" aspires to give a taste of diaspora music to Chennai.
Organised by the American Institute of Indian studies and Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology, Chennai, the versatile concert will be held on Friday, Tuesday and Thursday, said Kamalakanan, an organizer of the festival.
The first performance by "Sidi Goma", a group of the African Indian community in Gujarat, would see their ritual music and dance numbers accompanied by traditional instruments.
"Rivers of Babylon," a London-based group of Indian Baghdadi Jews will sing hymns and folk songs during their performance Tuesday, while Thursday would see performers of Chutney music - a mix of Bhojpuri and English songs - by the Trinidad-based "D Bhuyaa Saaj".
