Moved by the plight of Indian orphans, an NRI student in Britain is planning to build a children's village in Mumbai, say media reports in London.
Druve Patel, a student of Oxford Brookes University, along with two friends and a local resident, Alex McMahon, will raise $137,480 (Rs 6 million), reports the Northampton Chronicle newspaper.
A charity — Help A Poor Child — has also come forward to help the youngsters. The village plans to house 100 children and provide them with schooling, vocational training and healthcare.
"The first time I went to India, I was about 13. It was such a big eye-opener just to see how people lived in the Third World. I've been there four or five times since. After seeing how people live in deprived areas, I feel we should do something," Patel was quoted as saying by the daily.
"We really want to make a difference, but we've found the funding really difficult. We're hoping to help children all around the world, starting in India and then, hopefully, in Africa and South America," he added.
