NSUI alleges Goa police acted late in attack on their leader

National Students Union of India today alleged that police delayed to attend to their call when their Goa chief Sunil Kawthankar was brutally attacked by unknown assailants.

National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday alleged that police delayed to attend to their call when their Goa chief Sunil Kawthankar was brutally attacked by unknown assailants.

"Sunil was attacked at 7.45 p.m but police arrived at 10. 00 pm We had informed police control room immediately after the attack," Sunil Shetye, NSUI leader, told reporters.

Shetye along with two others was accompanying Kawthankar when he was attacked by unknown assailants on Friday leaving him badly injured.

Kawthankar is leading a signature campaign demanding handing over of drug nexus probe to CBI shifting it from Goa police.

NSUI on Tuesday gave deadline of seven days to Goa government to hand over the drug nexus case to Central investigation agency.

"We have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Digamber Kamat giving him seven days deadline to hand over the case to CBI. If government fails to shift the case, we will intensify the agitation," NSUI national delegate Gautam Bhagat said.

"We want that CBI should also investigate attack on our chief. We have no faith in Goa police who have failed to arrest the assailants," NSUI leader Nitin Anandache said.

"We have spoken to NSUI incharge Minaxi Natarajan who has assured all the support in our cause," he said.
