Two teams of the sales tax department under an excise and taxation officer (ETO) and a assistant excise and taxation officer (AETO) reached Sector 29 to check speed governors.

"Many vehicles we verified were defaulters on speed governor parts and we are looking seriously into the issue," said Anup Singh, district excise and taxation commissioner, Gurgaon.

Transport officials issue fitness certificates to these vehicles without checking whether the device functional. In some cases, the equipment was found to be of sub-standard quality and bought from grey market. While inspector Randheer Singh fined 20 vehicles for unauthorised or absent speed governors, 20 vehicles were penalised for absence of reflector tapes.
