It was alleged that leakages through the depots of different oil companies at Bhanpur have been contaminating the groundwater in Geeta Nagar, Indira Nagar, Shiv Nagar and other adjoining areas. The tube-wells in these localities are pumping out water mixed with oil.

To discuss the issue, the district administration convened a meeting with the representatives of oil companies and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation today. Some months back, the district administration had asked two oil companies to provide an amount of Rs 75 lakh each for making arrangement of water supply in the affected localities.

The district Collector told the officials to prepare a proposal for shifting these depots to Sukhi Sewania. He also said that there should be arrangements for additional land for the development of green belt at such places. The officials of Hindustan Petroleum informed that they have asked for land at Bhauri and Kolukhedi.
