In an attempt to reach the remotest corners of the state, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has decided to hold his cabinet meetings in places 100s of kilometers away from Srinagar and Jammu.
The first meeting was held on Wednesday at Tangdhar village near the Line of Control about 180 kilometers from Srinagar. The meeting chaired by the chief minister was attended by his entire cabinet.
``The aim is to meet people, understand their problems and start development initiatives accordingly,'' said an official.
In the coming months the cabinet is likely to meet at remote areas like Gurez, Machil, Rajouri, Poonch in Jammu region.
In the meeting, the cabinet granted additional Rs. one crore for school buildings damaged in 2005 earthquake and another Rs one crore for Sub-District Hospital Tangdar. The cabinet fixed September 2012 as target date for its completion. Abdullah also directed constitution of a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to finalise the modus operandi for fast-track filling up of vacancies in health and education sectors in Karnah Tehsil.
