Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference president has criticised the BJP government at the Centre for "statements regarding Myanmar border operation."
Calling the statements as an "amazing self goal," he said that Myanmar's statement that the operation did not take place on its soil, had proved counterproductive. He had advised the government to let the operation speak "for itself."
"What an amazing self goal!!! Next time you have a good covert Op, let the Op speak for itself and leave the chest thumping for the campaigns," Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
While the government claimed to have carried the first ever cross border operation inside the neighbouring Myanmar in which 38 militants were killed; Myanmar, however, refuted the claims that the attack happened in its territory.
"All the chest thumping did is force Myanmar to deny the Op ever took place on their soil thus proving totally counterproductive #selfgoal," he further wrote.
While voices calling for similar operations on the borders in Kashmir are being raised, a top Indian Army commander in Kashmir said it would not be correct to relate the Myanmar operation with the situation on the Kashmir border.
Speaking to media, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army's 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha, said that the actions taken in Kashmir are clearly related to operational circumstances. "What action we take, what response we do is clearly related to operational circumstances,'' he said.
