PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said Abdullah's remarks have exposed the "deceitful" politics of the National Conference (NC) leadership.

"While on one hand Abdullah is enjoying power in the state with the Congress, he is trying to keep his old friends in the BJP in good humour for a future alliance post-Lok Sabha polls," she told party workers in Srinagar.

"Abdullah by opposing NSA against Varun Gandhi was endorsing the stand of right-wing groups like RSS, Bajrang Dal and VHP on the issue."

Instead of shedding tears over the plight of Varun, the chief minister had to show the same concern for the hundreds of Kashmiri detenues booked under Public Safety Act (PSA), she demanded.

Reacting to Gandhi's arrest, Abdullah had told a news channel on Thursday, "It was a hate speech but it didn't threaten national security. I am sure there are other rules and other laws that could have been used."
