Omar welcomes Dalai Lama on first visit to Kashmir

Tibetan Buddhist Monk Dalai Lama arrived in Srinagar on Thursday on his maiden visit to Kashmir valley, where he will visit the site believed to have conducted the fourth largest Bhuddist conference centuries ago.

Tibetan Buddhist Monk Dalai Lama arrived in Srinagar on Thursday on his maiden visit to Kashmir valley, where he will visit the site believed to have conducted the fourth largest Bhuddist conference centuries ago.

"Lama was received by chief minister Omar Abdullah at the Srinagar airport. The chief minister welcomed the religious leader and conveyed his good wishes to him. He also enquired about the health of Dalai Lama," said an official spokesman.

Dalai Lama, the spokesman said, prayed for peace, prosperity and development of the state.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama arrived in Srinagar on Thursday on his maiden private visit to Kashmir during which he is scheduled to meet Tibetan refugees living in the Valley.

The Dalai Lama, who will be a state guest during his six-day stay in the Valley, was received at the airport by chief minister Omar Abdullah.

"The chief minister welcomed the (Buddhist) religious leader and conveyed his good wishes to him. Omar also enquired about the health of the Dalai Lama," an official spokesman said.
