One injured while defusing landmines in Orissa

A personnel of the bomb disposal squad of Orissa police was injured while defusing landmines in Maoisti-hit Malkangiri district on Saturday.

The anti-Maoist force comprising SOG and Orissa police found seven live landmines near Gobindpalli ghat under Mathili police station on a tipoff that they were buried beneath a road blocked by felled trees, IIC of Mathili police station A Routray, said.

While defusing them a member of the Bomb Disposal Suad was injured, the sources said. He was hospitalised at Gobindpalli.

Police suspected that the landmines were planted targeting the security personnel ahead of the bandh call given by Maoists on June 28.

The area was being combed to ascertain if more landmines were planted.

Earlier on June 22, three landmines were seized from a nearby spot and a policemen was injured while they were being defused.
