One civilian was killed and another injured on Monday in heavy shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector, forcing the Indian Army to retaliate.
A defence spokesperson said the firing, which started late on Sunday night, was continuing till Monday morning.
"One person, who was cutting grass near the LoC, has died and another has been injured. Though, these are initial reports," SSP Poonch JS Johar told HT.
Defence spokesperson lieutenant colonel Manish Mehta said Pakistan made unprovoked firing in Poonch sector on Sunday night at about 11pm.
"It first fired 82mm mortar shells and latter started firing with heavy 120 mm.The firing is still continuing. The army is also firing back in an equal measure," said col Mehta.
Pakistan has been consistently firing along the LoC on Poonch sector for the last one week.
It also fired along the LoC in Mandi area of the Poonch sector on Sunday. An army jawan was injured in the firing by Pakistan along the LoC in Poonch on Friday night.
On August 29, three people were killed in RS Pura sector, near Jammu, and six people had died on August 16 in Balakote sector of Poonch.
