One militant killed in Manipur encounter

A militant was killed in an encounter with the police in Manipur's Imphal East district today, police sources said.

The encounter at Heingang area between a group of armed militants and the police lasted 10 minutes, with one militant being shot dead, the sources said.

The other militants escaped.

The police seized a 9 mm pistol with three rounds from the dead militant, sources said.

The body was sent for post mortem, sources said.

So far 30 persons, including militants, were killed in militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year, the sources added.
