Online returns suspended: I-T Deptt

The Income Tax department has temporarily suspended the e-filing of returns until it renews the website’s security certificate, which expired on May 8. A clarification, following a report in Mint and Hindustan Times on May 17, also stated the process for renewal had begun well before the certificate lapsed. Surabhi Agarwal and Sanjiv Shankaran report.

The Income Tax department has temporarily suspended the e-filing of returns until it renews the website’s security certificate, which expired on May 8.

A clarification, following a report in Mint and Hindustan Times on May 17, also stated the process for renewal had begun well before the certificate lapsed. The Mint report pointed out due to the security certificate lapse , filing tax returns online could be risky as it could compromise confidential information of tax assessees.

“Taxpayers will not be affected in any way,” the I-T department said in a press release.
