All the commercial taxes in Goa can be paid online as the state government is planning to launch ‘Cyber Treasury´, an e-governance initiative on February 12.
The ‘Cyber Treasury´ would be launched by Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat on the sidelines of 12th National conference on E-Governance to be held on February 12 and 13.
“Beginning with Value Added Tax (VAT), all the taxes could be paid online by the consumers under this scheme,” state finance secretary Udipta Ray told a press conference this afternoon.
The government has tied up with the State Bank of India (SBI) for the launching of this scheme. “Subsequently, other accredited banks will also be joining in the scheme,” he added.
The scheme, currently covers VAT, while the state government plans to cover 32 vital services under e-governance in Goa, Ray disclosed.
After VAT, the consumers can pay state and central excise taxes under this scheme, which will be operational on National Informatic Centre (NIC) server.
At the end of current calendar year, all the services would be brought into the spectrum of this scheme, Ray said.
