At two in the afternoon, Chatterjee along with Ashok Deb and Jyotipriyo Mallick, two MLAs were squatting in front of the chamber of the Chief Minister and started demanding that 64-year old Bhattacharjee be arrested.

They also demanded the arrest of Bengal home secretary Ardhendu Sen.

A 12-member team of Kolkata Armed Police was guarding the chamber of the Chief Minister, who was out on his daily lunch.

The Trinamool MLAs said that the demand was triggered by the provocative statements of Anil Bose, the CPI(M) member of Lok Sabha who was unseated from his seat in Arambagh in Hooghly district in May 2009 elections.

On Thursday, Bose gave the police super of Hooghly district a deadline of 30 minutes to arrest two Trinamool supporters.

“If the police can act on a directive of a former MP, why can’t they arrest the main culprit and perpetrator of violence in Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the home secretary,” asked Chatterjee from his seat-in demonstration site.
