This, in turn, will enhance productivity of the common man, especially in rural India,” said General Manager (Development), District Telecom, Bhopal Sanjeev Agarwal to Hindustan Times. “The calling volume is expected to get a boost with the new scheme,” he added. The Bhopal SSA comprising Bhopal and Sehore revenue districts has a base of 1.4 lakh landline subscribers.

Union Communications and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran announced the scheme today in New Delhi. The new plan will enable customers of BSNL and MTNL to call from one end of India to other at the cost of Re 1 per minute any time of the day to any phone.

The plan also, for the first time, takes away distinction between fixed line tariff and the cellular tariff, making the tariff “technology independent”.

“Since the circle office has not received any communication from headquarters, we’re not in a position to comment anything more on the plan right now,” remarked a BSNL official at Circle office.
