The much-awaited organisational reshuffle in the Congress is expected by the end of this month, a top party source said on Tuesday.
The shake-up by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi could see some drastic changes in the party structure on the basis of feedback from leaders and workers to strengthen the organisation.
Gandhi has completed the consultation process which started soon after his return from a nearly two-month long sabbatical in April.
In the reshuffle, Gandhi will seek to strike a fine balance between seniors and young leaders, a senior party functionary said. The battle between the old guard and the new generation is taking its toll on the party’s revival plans and Gandhi is expected to settle the matter by taking everybody along.
He is also expected to re-constitute the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision making body in the party. Many state chiefs will also be changed.
During the consultation process, Gandhi received various suggestions, including increasing the number of its general secretaries and secretaries. At present, the party has 10 general secretaries and 38 secretaries.
In the past few months, the party has revived its defunct Scheduled Caste departments in many states with the aim of grooming young Dalit leaders for key organisational roles.
