Captain Rahul Dravid on Monday lavished praise on his young fast bowling attack for shaping India's historic win but also cautioned his teammates of a backlash from the South Africans in the remaining two Tests.
"It is stating the obvious that they would come hard at us. They are a tough side and we need to be on our guard," said Dravid after India won the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.
Looking ahead, he wanted the experienced cricketers in the side, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman to be on alert for any eventuality and "hit the ground running" in the next two matches.
Ganguly, in fact, received a special mention from the Indian captain who praised him for "controlling" the innings in both the essays of this Test as well as in the warm-up game at Potchefstroom.
"I think our win in Potchefstroom did a lot of good to our confidence. During the stay there we worked very hard and reflected on the areas we needed to improve." Dravid said there were too many performers in the side who needed to be praised but his fast bowling unit had impressed him the most.
"I said it in the West Indies that I had never seen an Indian attack bowl with so much discipline and a few of my friends had laughed at the suggestion. But they were nothing less than sensational in this Test," said Dravid.
