Arunachal Pradesh recorded over 50 per cent polling at close in the two parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal East and Arunachal West amidst allegations by the opposition BJP of mass rigging.
Police detained five persons for attempting to capture booths.
Similar reports of booth capturing were reported from Upper and Lower Subansiri districts. Polling was cancelled in five places in Itanagar.
Repolling in those places are expected to be ordered by the Election Commission on receipt of detailed information.
Election office sources said compilation of final poll percentage could take some time as poll officials from remote inaccessible areas without having any means of modern communication, were expected to return not before April 20.
Last time 56.06 per cent polling was recorded in the two constituencies.
Arunachal has an electorate of 7.34 lakh and the total polling stations number 2057. There are three polling stations where the number of voters is only three each.
Though four candidates are in the fray in each of the two constituencies, it is expected to be a straight fight between sitting BJP MPs Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao and their ruling Congress rivals and former ministers Takam Sanjoy and Ninong Erring in the Arunachal West and Arunachal East constituencies respectively.
