Over 8000 agricultural workers were on Monday taken into custody from different districts of Tamil Nadu for picketing state government offices in support of their charter of demands.

Their demands included payment of adequate relief to farmers affected by drought conditions and protection to farmers in the Cauvery delta by securing the state's share of Cauvery waters from Karnataka.

They also wanted that the Agriculturists' Welfare Board start functioning immediately.
Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers' Association sources said that over one lakh men and women agricultural workers participated in the agitation held in 28 districts, other than Chennai district.
