Pak treating AQ Khan like Socrates: MMA

MMA leader Maulana Samiul Haq said Pakistanis were treating Dr AQ Khan in the same way the Greeks treated Socrates.

Disgraced Pakistani nuclear scientist, Dr AQ Khan has been compared to ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates by a leading Opposition politician in Pakistan.

Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal leader Maulana Samiul Haq said that Pakistanis were treating Dr Khan in the same way the Greeks treated Socrates and forced him to consume hemlock.

MMA leaders Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Hussain Ahmad expressed concern over his ailment and demanded his quick release from house arrest.

Elsewhere, doctors have said that the surgical operation to remove the cancer-affected prostate gland will be performed at KRL Hospital and his chemotherapy handling will be at the NORI cancer hospital in Islamabad.

However, the final decision would be made after having consultations with his family.

Dr. Khan is most likely to undergo surgery first and then chemotherapy, with radiotherapy if required, said a doctor.

According to The Nation, though Dr Khan's family has expressed their satisfaction over the medical facilities available at KRL they also desire to consult renowned experts in nuclear medicine as well.

The federal government is also in contact with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital through KRL hospital for Khan's best possible treatment.

He was losing weight rapidly and doctors were monitoring his diabetes, the paper said.
